Girls' Day to St. Paul's Cathedral- July 30, 2015 Author - Kaylie

Today Mom and I went to St. Paul's Cathedral. We took the tube there. We toured the inside with multimedia tour guides which are actually an iPod with headphones. You can listen to someone telling you about everything and sometimes there are little videos to watch, too. We couldn't take any pictures inside:(  The inside was beautiful with alters, sculptures, mosaics, and paintings. My favorite part, besides the dome, was probably the quire area. It was very fancy and had lots of gold decorations. We climbed 257 stairs up to the whispering gallery. Mom and I tried it out and it worked! I heard her whisper, "Kaylie, Kaylie" from way across the circular room. That was brilliant! (like my English slang?)

After the whispering gallery we climbed up 119 more stairs to the dome! The first level is called the Stone Gallery. You go outside and you feel very secure and safe.

Look at this view of London! We could see a lot:
We could see the Millennium Bridge below.
Shakespeare's Globe Theatre across the Thames.
 Parliament and London Eye
Close up views of The Cathedral from the Stone Gallery

Trying to smile in the wind
Lots of room to explore and a big fence to keep me safe. It was windy up there though!
Mom convinced me that we should keep going all the way up to the Golden Gallery! Here we go!
LOTS of my enemy- spiral staircases that are open. I feel like I'm going to fall through!
So, I clung on for dear life!!!
We made it another 152 steps up- a total of 528 steps from the Cathedral floor. I was trying to smile so badly, but I couldn't, I was scared to death!
Do you see how skinny the walk way is and it was slanted and the fence was tiny! Mom held on to me as we walked around the top. If you are afraid of heights, don't come up here...unless you want to get over your fear, like me!

Scared selfie!

 Beautiful views!
Going back down with wobbly legs! Sometimes there wasn't a railing to hold on to!
Safely back on the ground! We went up and down a total of 1,056 steps! That's my workout for a week!

That is an outside view of the Golden Gallery! Can't believe I was up there!

A lady at the top gave me this cool pin.."I did the dome!"
We went across the street to Pizza Express which is a fancy pizza place here for lunch!
We were starving!
Mom and I had a fabulous day! My legs were still shaking for the rest of the day :)

Science Museum - July 27, 2015

Off the the Science Museum! Dallin has been dying to go!

Yep, we are wearing jackets in the middle of summer! I am actually loving the weather here. Most days are in the 70's. We have a little rain and some cooler days, I like those thrown in there. (Remind me about this in the winter when I'm complaining about the rain!)

Fun display at the entrance

Words going around and around this big screen

Enjoying all the hands on(or feet on) displays that taught the kids a thing or two as well.

Early calculators

a really early calculator :)

I used these in college. I didn't have my own laptop, way back then, most students didn't. I went to the BYU Education computer lab and waited until one of these iMacs was available. Luckily, we didn't have as much to do on the computer as students do now! I felt pretty old seeing this in a museum!

They had a fun area for kids to play.  We didn't stay too long because it was crowded!

I took this picture for my siblings. I sure remember playing on this thing!

and this!

Dallin and Sam were so excited to play PONG. Their dad had told them all about it.
They made sure I took a picture for him!

More mom's interest than the kids. 1850 Singer Machine. See description below.

The flight area of the museum was the favourite! I sure learned a lot!

Dallin was in heaven!

Some scientific research about our food cravings.

We found a park nearby to hang out in for awhile.
The kids were soon playing tag, hide-and-go-seek, and building fairy houses.
NO electronics - YAY!!

I wanted to go to the Victoria & Albert Museum. I thought it was a museum about them. OOPS! It wasn't! It was a museum with lots of things about English culture, just named after them.

We then met Dad after work and went to the Hyde Park Chapel of our church that is directly across the street from the Science Museum. We went inside and talked with some missionaries in the small visitor's centre they have there. We watched an excellent movie about families and how we can be together forever. I cried through the whole thing, no surprise to most of you, I'm sure:)

We then headed off to find a restaurant that was recommended by the missionaries as a great place for families to eat. We found the Baden Powell House.
It is a conference centre, so we didn't go in.
(You've probably noticed my British spellings, my computer makes me do it :)

My boy scouts(and future boy scout) had to stand by the statue of the founder of Boy Scouts.
It was a fun thing to find!

Sammers was ready to eat!

Kaylie looks worried in this picture, but I think she was just very hungry and didn't want to wait for mom to take a picture! All the kids loved the food!

The missionaries were right! Nando's was a yummy and family friendly place to eat. It is a South American BBQ chicken restaurant. We will take you there when you come to visit! It was a great ending to our fun day and fun Family Night!
