Port Issac - August 20, 2016

So, we are fans of the British show Doc Martin. If you haven't seen it, you should look it up. Well, if you like British humor. Preston's parents are fans as well. In the show, the seaside village of Portwenn and it's people are center stage. We wanted to drive through Cornwall to visit the real village of Port Issac where it is filmed.

It's a really old fishing village. It was cold and rainy, in August(!), but so fun to explore!

The tide is out.

Sam and Kaylie came with us. Kristy and Miles stayed back with all the other kids.
They are both making funny faces.

The gate leading down to Bert's restaurant.

Bert's Restaurant.

The church that is a school in the show.

The Doc's house and surgery(which is a doctor's office in the UK).
Lots of crowds, we really had to jump in to take a quick photo.

Scary story! Kaylie and Sam were standing on a small ledge directly across from the surgery while we took some photos(see photo of Sam above). All the sudden she slipped backwards off the ledge. I was standing on the ground close by so I grabbed her hand. She continued to slip and was very scared and said, "Help me!" I was nervous as well but I had to get my footing before I could pull her all the way up. Sam helped as well. She was okay, but was quite shaken up and scratched up from the bushes and stinging nettle plants she fell into. Later I took the photo below and showed Kaylie how she was on a cliff. Luckily, the bushes were there to slow down her fall. The bushes also hid the fact that she was standing on the cliff edge. We learned to watch out for that in the future! That made for an exciting day!

Mrs. Tishell's Pharmacy.

Just a lovely house I liked!

This is the Police Station

Tintagel Castle Ruins, overlooking the sea.
It was really stormy at this point, so the photos aren't very good.
We just jumped out of the car and took a quick peek.

Gorgeous Views - August 19, 2016

This was the house that we stayed in for our week in Devon. It was pretty quirky, but it was big and in a great location. See the bubble wrap painting? It was painted that way. Ha! It was something to talk about!

This was a big play room. The kids loved it in here.
The pillows were perfect for fort building.

On Friday we decided to take a walk, or hike as we call it in America.
It was rainy and steep, but the views were worth every single step!

I was a bit freaked out at this point.
I was convinced one of the kids would topple off the cliff that was a few feet away.

Always photo bombed by our kids.

Woolacombe Beach - August 18, 2016

On Thursday we visited Woolacombe Beach in Devon. This was probably our favorite beach day. The weather was perfect. It was a day of sandcastle building, surfing, and resting.

A little hazy in the morning, but it soon burned off. I love the hotels and homes on the hillside.

Uncle Miles spent a lot of his day teaching my oldest 3 how to surf. They loved it. This time in England has really given all of us opportunities to learn new things that we otherwise might never have. I will be forever grateful for this experience and for the people who helped us so much!.

They dug until they hit water.

Lots of castles were built. We are experts now about castles...;)

I thought this ball was a good idea...until we had to inflate it!
Yikes! At least the kids loved it.

What a wonderful world.
